	1948 Vintage Report Ref: 1948. Bordeaux produced a good small vintage. It was good for Red and white Burgundy. It was a poor vintage in the North and South of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal, perfect weather conditions led to a very good vintage for port.

	Delord Freres Armagnac 1948 (20cl) Ref: 4004 Made in the heart of the Bas Armagnac region, the nose is marked by a fine, sober and very crisp nose of apple, vanilla, bitter orange, lemon and toast. This Armagnac has lots of balance, despite a rather light body. The flavours on the palate are dominated almost entirely by vanilla. There is a long and intense aromatic persistence. 	Massandra Collection 1948 Red Port Ref: 4134 The wine is made of Mourvedre grape variety which carves heat and sun. It was one of the first varieties imported to the Crimea in the nineteenth century. It produces densely coloured and flavored wines with a great ability to age. Port was created by Massandra wine-maker Bianki in 1891 Massandra Red Port strikes everyone by its bright, juicy, intensive, dark cherry colour. The bouquet of the wine is very harmonious, very full. 	Massandra Collection 1948 Livadia Red Port Ref: 4126 Cabernet Sauvignon was one of the earliest varieties imported to the Crimea by Count Voronstov. Initially his aim would have been to recreate dry wine styles of Western Europe - clearly in this instance the wines of Bordeaux. As winemaking developed however, it was recognised that success was to be found less with dry wines than in the realm of the sweet and fortified. With established vineyards of high quality, "noble" varietals, it was a natural step to start using such varieties for the production of what was hoped would be the highest quality wines of the Crimea. The wines that have historically been known as "Livadia red Port" were made, and are still made, from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon in the classic method for fortified red wine production of rapid extraction of colour and tannin from skins. High quality red grapes: Saperavi, Morastel, Aleatico Bastardo of Magarach are used to make this excellent wine.
