From the outstanding 1999 vintage, this is atypical as it is a single domaine appellation nestling in the heart of the Condrieu AOC. Spanning barely 4 hectares, it is one of the smallest appellations in France, with a very exclusive output. Viogner is the only varietal cultivated and vinified here. The wines stand out from their Condrieu neighbours because they are aged in old casks. They are scarce and precious and require long cellaring in order to achieve their full aromatic complexity and mellowness. Château Grillet certainly boasts an iconic status in the Rhône Valley.
