2007 Chateauneuf du Pape 2007 Chateau de la Nerthe (Red wine)

2007 Chateauneuf du Pape 2007 Chateau de la Nerthe (Red wine)

Ref: 30527

From the outstanding 2007 vintage and scoring 93/100 Parker Points, "The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape unquestionably benefitted from the declassified Cuvee des Cadettes being included in the blend. Composed of 48% Grenache, 28% Syrah, and 14% Mourvedre, 62% was barrel-aged and the rest spent time in large wood foudres before blending. Excellent aromatics of lavender, licorice, blueberry, black raspberry, and new saddle leather are followed by a ripe, full-bodied, elegant, accessible wine offering an admirable concoction of rich fruit, a substantial, full-bodied mouthfeel, and silky tannins. It should drink nicely for 12-15 years. " Drink now - 2031.

This vintage wine is shipped in a deluxe silk lined wooden presentation box with four wine accessories (corkscrew, wine pourer, drip stopper & wine thermometer) [worth £17.99] at no extra cost.

Chateauneuf du Pape (The new house of the Pope) takes it’s name from when seven successive popes resided in Avignon rather than the Vatican from 1309 until 1377. The wines of the Southern Rhone are all blends of grapes with the most popular being Grenache, Mouvedre and Syrah with the following other varieties also being blended: Cinsault, Counoise, Clairette, Grenache Blanc, Muscadin, Picpoul Gri, Picpoul Noir, Picardin, Rousanne, Teret Noir and Vaccarese. The wines are typically 14% proof and exhibit strong fruit characteristics with earthy and oak flavours. the temperatures in the South of France are extremely hot in the summer and the Mistral wind which comes up the Rhone river helps keep the temperature down. The Southern Rhone provides for ideal wine making conditions and the best makers make wines that have great cellar ageing potential.

This great estate has proven to be one of the few contrarians in both 2007 and 2008. Why? With the proliferation of special cuvees in the great vintage of 2007, La Nerthe was the outlier, not producing their famed Cuvee des Cadettes. However, in 2008, an average quality vintage in which most Chateauneuf du Pape estates did not produce a special cuvee, La Nerthe made a Cuvee des Cadettes. They have also introduced a second wine called Les Granieres.
