The 2013 vintage in Bordeaux was a good year with a wet May and a humid harvest. The Saint Estephe region is the pick of the wines this year. 2013 was a good vintage  for Red and White Burgundy. It was an very good vintage in the North and a good vintage for the South of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal no vintage was declared. The Champagne region also produced some good Champagnes which is drinking beautifully. It was also a very good vintage in Italy for red wines.

It is made entirely from rigorously selected estate-owned grapes and made in the Imperial winery. The label is designed by late Haro artist Eduardo Arroyo, making this Rioja a true reflection of Haro. Intense ruby red, bright and deep in colour. From the good 2013 vintage, this property in the Graves is owned and run by the Cazes family of Lynch Bages. The vines (planted in 1988) are now reaching maturity. 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Merlot with 10% Cabernet Franc. Aged in one third new oak and the rest in one and two year old barrels from Lynch Bages. This magnum has a medium ruby colour with crunchy red fruits on the nose. The palate is juicy and primary but layered with a little sweet vanilla. The tannins are soft and fine, providing a supple texture to allow this wine a fleshy finish. Drink now - 2038. Compared to the 2013 La Roche, the fruit here is less broody and more open, some red cherries beginning to appear with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a lightly spiced opening, chalky tannin, and a focused, intense finish that leaves boysenberry and citrus fruit on the aftertaste.
