2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes 2004 Domaine de la Janasse

Scoring 95/100 Parker points and from the very good 2004 vintage, "Showing even better than when I tasted it for the 2004 retrospective earlier this year, the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is about as rich and textured as they come in the vintage. Blackberry, licorice-laced cherries, sugared garrigue and crushed flowers all emerge from this full-bodied, supple and yet beautifully balanced wine. As with the Chaupin, it’s entering its prime drink window, and will continue to evolve gracefully. I’ll say again though, it’s drinking beautifully now." Drink now - 2035.

2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee 2011 Domaine Grand Veneur

From the very good 2011 vintage and scoring 90/100 Parker points, "Looking at the 2011s, all of which are certainly solid in the vintage, the forward, up-front and nicely textured Grand Veneur 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape delivers loads of black raspberry, toast, licorice and spice-box to go with a medium-bodied, supple and polished feel on the palate. There’s not a whole lot of back-end depth here, and it should be consumed early in its life, but it’s perfectly balanced, has loads of character and is hard to resist. While delicious now, it should hit prime time in another 2-3 years and evolve gracefully through 2021." Drink now - 2021.

2007 Domaine Grand Veneur Cuvee Les Origines 2007 Domaine Grand Veneur

From the outstanding 2007 vintage and scoring 90/100 Parker points, 'I'd wager one of the finest examples of this cuvee ever made (the 2009 and 2010 will give it run for its money), the sensational 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee les Origines from the Jaume family is a perfect example of a modern styled Chateauneuf du Pape that never loses its Southern Rhone soul. Made from 50% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre and 20% Syrah that was aged in equal parts barrels and tanks, it offers a ripe, pedal-to-the-metal bouquet of ripe black fruits, charred meats, pan drippings, saddle leather and garrigue that continues to open up with time in the glass. On the palate, it's full-bodied, beautifully concentrated and layered, with sweet, sweet tannin and a great finish. 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape les Hauts Lieux 2011 Domaine de la Vieille Julienne

From the very good 2011 vintage and scoring 94/100 Parker points, "Coming from a higher elevation, cooler terroir and limestone soils, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Hauts Lieux is a total rock star in the vintage and checks in as a blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre and the balance Counoise and Cinsault, which was aged all in foudre. Harvested very late (and this estate normally harvests on the early side) and not wrapping up until October, it possesses gorgeous purity, with mineral-tinged aromas of blackberry, currants, licorice, ground herbs and violets all soaring from the glass. An all-around powerful, structured and rich 2011, with a full-bodied mouthfeel, terrific acidity and big tannin, it will be one of the longest-lived wines in the vintage. Give it 2-3 years in the cellar, and drink bottles through 2026." Drink now - 2026.

From the outstanding 2006 vintage and scoring 93/100 Parker points, "I’ve had numerous bottles of the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape recently and it never fails to disappoint. Always a rough blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah and Mourvèdre, aged all in concrete tanks, this classic beauty is loaded with notions of kirsch liqueur, wild strawberries, gamy meats and olive tapenade. Medium to full-bodied, seamless, silky and elegant, you can't go wrong here, and this will provide immense drinking pleasure anytime over the coming decade (although I see no need to delay gratification)." 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Domaine de la Janasse 2011 Cuvee Chaupin

From the very good 2011 vintage, this red wine scores 95/100 Parker points and "Coming from a cooler, sandy terroir in the northeastern part of the appellation, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Chaupin (which comes 80% from the Chaupoin lieu-dit and 20% from the La Janasse lieu-dit, hence the subtle name change) is 100% Grenache, from vines planted in 1912, that’s aged two-thirds in foudre and one-third in demi-muid. Gorgeous all around, with plenty of similarities to the traditional cuvee, yet slightly richer and fuller, it delivers beautiful mulled red and black fruits, licorice, spice and tinges of stony minerality on the nose. Full-bodied, supple, seamless and elegant, with fine tannin, it makes the most of a difficult vintage and is certainly one of the top 10-12 wines." Drink now - 2023.

1997 Chateauneuf Du Pape 1997 Chateau de Beaucastel

From the good 1997 vintage and scoring 89-91/100 Parker points, this stunning red wine is "one of the most seductive and forward young Beaucastels I have tasted since the'85. The blend was 35% Mourvedre, 30% Grenache, 10% Counoise, 5% Syrah, 5% Cinsault, and the rest other southern Rhone varietals. The deep ruby color is accompanied by forward, attractive aromatics consisting of black raspberries, cherries, licorice, floral, and herb scents. The wine is fruit-driven, with less structure than usual, but luscious cassis, licorice, and blackberries inundate the palate with no hard edges. A seductive, supple-textured, medium to full-bodied Beaucastel, this wine should drink well young, and last for 15 or more years." Drink now - 2023.

From the outstanding 2003 vintage, this red wine scores 92-5/100 Parker points and "Dramatic increases in concentration, structure, and intensity are found in the opaque ruby/plum/purple-hued 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Etienne Gonnet. Aromas of licorice, seaweed, black pepper, plums, figs, black currants, and cherries emerge from this full-bodied, dense, opulent red. 1990 Crozes Hermitage, Domaine de Thalabert Paul Jaboulet Aine 1990

From the outstanding 1990 vintage and scoring 92/100 Parker points, "The 1990 is an unqualified winner. My instincts suggest it will easily eclipse the 1978. The 1990 exhibits a huge, roasted Syrah nose and the massive power produced by the hot sun and drought of this vintage. It has also benefited from an unbelievably long 40-day maceration. The huge, smoky, superripe nose of herbs, coffee, and cassis is followed by a densely packed, authoritatively rich, nearly massive, surprisingly well-balanced wine." Drink now - 2024.
