From the outstanding 1989 vintage and scoring 91/100 Parker points, "The 1989 remains the finest young Magdelaine I have ever tasted, but like so many wines made by the team of Christian Moueix and his oenologist, Jean-Claude Berrouet, they frequently close up after bottling, tasting significantly lighter and less well-endowed. Deep ruby/purple in color, with a restrained but blossoming bouquet of chocolatey, super-extracted, roasted, plummy fruit, this wine has an extra dimension to its flavors and excellent length, yet remains understated and well-balanced. There is a great deal of tannin in the finish, but the alcohol seems less exaggerated than in many St.-Emilions, and the acidity is sound, although not high. This should prove to be a profound Magdelaine, but I would not want to drink it before the turn of the century." Drink now - 2036. No label.
