This super red wine from the very good 1997 vintage scored 90/100 Parker points "The 1997 The Fergus, a 100% old vine Grenache cuvee, reveals a distinctive minty, kirsch, and black cherry-scented nose that explodes upward from the glass. Hedonistic and full-bodied, it does not possess a great deal of structure, but it does provide waves of jammy fruit. Abundant quantities of pepper, spice, and alcohol (14.5%) are present in the knock-out finish." Drink now - 2032.

Opaque purple in color, it has an aromatic array of roasted coffee, violets, lavender, pepper, Asian spices, blueberry, and blackberry liqueur. In the mouth it is velvety-textured, deep, concentrated, opulent, and altogether hedonistic. It will evolve for 5-7 years and drink well through 2026." Drink now - 2030.

From the very good 2005 vintage and scoring 98/100 Parker points, "Deep garnet-brick colored, the 2005 Carnival of Love displays a more earthy, meaty, gamey character with plenty of coffee and damp loam aromas fused with smoked bacon, some iron ore, Chinese plums, a little floral note and even a bit of truffles character coming through. It is very rich and full-bodied, with the acid line standing out a little from the very concentrated and quite evolved fruit core. Still, it has amazing layers and a lot to give on the very long, licorice-laced finish, even if just a bit warm." Drink now - 2035.

From the outstanding 1981 vintage and scoring 97/100 Parker points, "The 1981 stood out as slightly superior. Winemaker John Duval always felt this was a tannic style of Grange, but the wine has shed its tannins, and this is one of the few vintages where the percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon was above 10%. Sweet notes of creme de cassis, cedarwood, charcoal, and barbecue spices are followed by a full-bodied, opulent wine displaying heady amounts of alcohol, glycerin, and density in its full-bodied, skyscraper-like texture. I was drinking this wine with great pleasure in the mid-nineties, yet here it is nearly 15 years later, and the wine does not appear to have budged much from its evolutionary state. This is a testament to how remarkably well these wines hold up, and age at such a glacial pace." Drink now - 2033.

On the palate, it's more clearly Grange and Shiraz-like, with plenty of weight and richness along with flavors of dried fruit, roasted meat and mocha, but there's also a sense that it's starting to lighten and become approachable/mature."
