The 1956 vintage was challenging for all wine producers. The 1956 vintage in Bordeaux was poor and will always be remembered as the year of the frost when a devastating frost destroyed many of the vines on both the Left and Right Bank of the Gironne. It was the coldest year since the beginning of the 1700's and not one that wine makers will remember with any fondness.The pick of the vintage is either sweet white wines or Rivesaltes, the sweet red wine from the South of France, which is newly bottled having been stored in cask and is drinking beautifully with vintage port like flavours.
