Finding 1925 vintage wines has been a serious challenge for the wine buyers at vintagewinegifts as so few have survived. Our pick would be our 'Taylor Fladgate 90 years of port' or Vintage Armagnac.


Finding 1926 vintage wines has been a serious challenge for the wine buyers at vintagewinegifts as so few have survived. The 1926 vintage in Bordeaux was outstanding with ideal growing conditions and a long hot summer leading to a small crop of high quality wines being produced. Surviving examples are very rare and hence the high prices to acquire such gems.


1935 was a good year for Bordeaux and French wine producers but few 1935 vintage wines have survived.. The pick of 1935 vintage gifts are Vintage Port In Portugal, there was an outstanding vintage of ports that are still drinking beautifully today.


1945 was probably the greatest vintage for Bordeaux of the last century with an early harvest yielding magnificent long lasting vintage wines of the highest quality. It was the same story in Burgundy and the Northern Rhone. In Portugal, some of the greatest vintage ports of the last century were made and they are still drinking beautifully.


Good weather throughout Europe led to a good vintage in Bordeaux. The 1946 vintage in Bordeaux was good and started with a cold rainy Spring that hindered flowering. The vintage was saved by a warm dry Summer which continued into October. The harvest commenced in mid September. There was a poor vintage in Burgundy and the North and South of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal some outstanding Colheita (Tawny) ports were made. Armagnac is a good choice for this vintage or Rivesaltes, the sweet red wine from the South of France, which is newly bottled having been stored in cask and is drinking beautifully with vintage port like flavours.


1950 was a good vintage in Bordeaux, but not successful in either Burgundy or the North and South of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal, there was a small, good vintage of high quality vintage ports produced.


Poor weather throughout Europe did not help wine makers in Bordeaux, Burgundy and the North and South of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal some outstanding Colheita (Tawny) ports were made. The 1955 vintage was successful in Bordeaux with an outstanding vintage produced due to a warm sunny summer and welcome showers in September. 1955 was a good vintage for Red Burgundy. It was a very good vintage in the North and South of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal, an outstanding vintage produced some stunning vintage ports which are drinking beautifully.


The 1956 vintage was challenging for all wine producers. The 1956 vintage in Bordeaux was poor and will always be remembered as the year of the frost when a devastating frost destroyed many of the vines on both the Left and Right Bank of the Gironne. It was the coldest year since the beginning of the 1700's and not one that wine makers will remember with any fondness.The pick of the vintage is either sweet white wines or Rivesaltes, the sweet red wine from the South of France, which is newly bottled having been stored in cask and is drinking beautifully with vintage port like flavours.


A cool summer hindered a good grape harvest in Bordeaux and only the first growth and Grand Cru wines are now drinkable. It was a poor vintage for Red Burgundy and white Burgundy and also in the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal, a hot summer led to a very good vintage with all the major port houses declaring. Our wine buyer recommends either Vintage Port, Armagnac or Red Bordeaux wine for this anniversary year.


Bordeaux had great weather and produced a outstanding vintage. Burgundy had very good weather and produced a very good vintage for red wines. It was an outstanding vintage in both the Northern and Southern Cote du Rhone. In Portugal, there was no vintage ports declared but stunning Tawny ports are available and drinking beautifully. In Italy it was a good vintage in Tuscany and great in Piedmont.


1965 was a difficult year with a cool summer not assisting wine producers in France although Italian wine producers faired better. In Portugal, there were Single vintage ports produced, but they are extremely rare. A non declared vintage in Champagne. Vintage Armagnac, Sauternes and Vintage Ports are the pick of the vintage.


The weather in 1966 in Bordeaux was very favourable with with good weather patterns. The winter was mild with fine weather hitting the region by Spring which produced good flowering. June was cool and dry and there was some rain in July. August was a dry cloudy month but the harvest was saved by a lovely hot September which led to the harvest starting in early October. All the major regions of Margaux, St Estephe, Pauillac, St Julien and the Medoc produced powerful wines with great ageing potential.1966 was a very good year for Red Burgundy and it as also a very good vintage in the Northern Rhone and a good vintage in the South of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal, it was an outstanding Vintage Port year producing Vintage Ports with superb structure, filled with fruit and tannins. James Symington of the Symington Port Group, "Musts everywhere showed higher than average readings and the colour is excellent. Yields on the other hand are the lowest for many years, some Quintas being as much as 30% down on their '64/5 productions.We are delighted with the prospects for the 1966's. It will be surprising indeed if 1966 does not prove to be an excellent vintage for Port."


The weather in 1975 in Bordeaux was favourable. It was a mild and wet winter and a fine spring. The summer months were hot and dry and there was rain showers in September. The harvest, which started during the last week in September, was mainly sunny with a few hailstorms. The best balanced wines are found in Margaux, St-Julien, Graves and Pauillac. A vintage for drinkable wines to be consumed in the short to medium term. 1975 was not successful for Red or white Burgundy or the North and South of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal, there was a vintage declaration with some very good vintage ports produced.


The 1976 vintage in Bordeaux was fair and the drought of 1976 that affected Western Europe throughout the spring and summer had a huge impact in Bordeaux. The record hot weather continued until the storms and rains began in mid-September which interrupted the early harvest. 1976 was successful for Red but not for white Burgundy. There was a good vintage in the Northern Rhone but cold weather led to a poor vintage in the South of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal, there was a small single Quinta declaration but the Colheita (or tawny ports) that were produced are drinking beautifully.


The 1985 vintage in Bordeaux started with the vines suffering frost damage in winter which was followed by a stormy, cold and wet Spring. Early summer saw violent hailstorms, but after this time the weather improved dramatically for the crucial flowering period. July and August saw hot temperatures with isolated showers. September was one of the hottest and driest on record, which led to good ripening. From September onwards conditions were perfect for a good harvest. It was an outstanding vintage and all appellations produced wines of great complexity and great ageing potential.. 1985 was outstanding for Red Burgundy and very good for White Burgundy. It was an outstanding vintage in the North and South of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal, there was a very good vintage which produced some very good vintage ports. There was also an outstanding vintage in the Champagne region.


Bordeaux was hot and dry and produced a very good vintage. It was very good for Red Burgundy and outstanding for White Burgundy. It was a good vintage in the South and poor in the North of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal, a very wet summer led to a poor vintage for port.


1995 was a very good vintage in Bordeaux with a mild winter and warm spring. The summer was hot and punctuated by light rains in September. Dry weather lasted well into October, so the grapes remained on the vines longer. Rich and firm wines were made with the wines in St-Julien and Pauillac being the pick of the vintage. A vintage for drinkable wines to be consumed in the short to medium term. 1995 was very successful for Red Burgundy and White Burgundy. It was a good vintage in the North and outstanding in the South of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal, there was a single Quinta declaration which produced some very good vintage ports.


Good summer weather produced a very good vintage in Bordeaux .1996 was a very good vintage for red Burgundy and outstanding for white Burgundy. A good vintage was produced in the Rhone Valley. In Portugal, some good single Quinta vintage ports were made. It was an outstanding Vintage in Champagne. It was a very good year for wines from Italy and Spain.


2000 was a hugely successful vintage in Bordeaux with the finest vintage wines produced since 1990. After a poor winter and a damp spring and early summer, the sun shone from mid July until mid September. Harvesting lasted until the 11th October. A vintage for drinkable wines to be consumed in the long term. 2000 was very successful for Red Burgundy and excellent for White Burgundy. It was an outstanding vintage in the North and South of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal, there was an outstanding vintage with some long living vintage ports produced.The Champagne region also produced some good Champagne which are currently drinking beautifully.


2001 was a good vintage in Bordeaux. It was very good for red and white Burgundy. It was an outstanding vintage in the North and in the South of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal, there were some good vintage ports produced. It was also a good vintage for Champagne.

A truely superlative vintage for both left and right bank producers. It was an outstanding vintage in the North and South of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal, there was a small, though high quality crop which produced some good vintage ports. The Champagne region also produced some very good Champagne which is drinking beautifully.


The 2006 vintage in Bordeaux was a good year but had extremely variable weather throughout the year with a very cold winter, a dry spring and a scorching July. September was very wet which hampered the harvest. Cabernet Sauvignon based wines were most successful. A vintage for drinkable wines to be consumed in the long term. 2006 was a very good vintage for Red and White Burgundy. It was an outstanding vintage in the North and South of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal, no vintage ports were made. The Champagne region also produced some good Champagne which is drinking beautifully. It was also an outstanding vintage in Italy for red wines.


The 2007 vintage in Bordeaux was a good year with the warmest April for 50 years followed by a very dull May and summer. Growers became very concerned until 60 days of unbroken sunshine in late summer saved the harvest. The Margaux region is the pick of the wines this year. 2007 was a very good vintage for White Burgundy and a good vintage for Red Burgundy. It was an outstanding vintage in the North and South of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal an outstanding vintage was declared. It was also a good vintage for Red Burgundy with spicysoft tannic wines being produced. It was a very good vintage in both the North and South of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal it was a single Quinta Vintage Port year. A note from Charles and Paul Symington of the Symington Port Group, which owns the well known names as W&J Graham Vintage Port, Dow Vintage Port and Warre Vintage Port, stated "What has been produced looks extremely good, even grapes coming in at this stage from high lying areas are producing some impressive wines." The Champagne region also produced some good Champagne which is drinking beautifully. It was also a very good vintage in Italy for red wines.


The 2010 vintage in Bordeaux was an outstanding year with perfect growing conditions throughout the year. 2010 was an outstanding vintage for White and red Burgundy It was also an outstanding vintage in the North and South of the Cote du Rhone. In Portugal a very good vintage was declared. The Champagne region also produced some very good Champagne which is drinking beautifully. It was also a very good vintage in Italy for red wines.


An outstanding Vintage Port year with all the major port houses declaring. Winemaker Charles Symington (Maker of their main brands, including Graham Vintage Port , Dow Vintage Port , Warre Vintage Port , Cockburn Vintage Port , Quinta do Vesúvio Vintage Port and Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port) described the 2011 Vintage Ports as "characterized by an unusual combination of elegance with power and structure." Paul Symington, CEO, emphasized their marked minerality with schist-edged tannins, and Charles Symington cited an attractive "fragrant wet-earth scent," which could be credited to the success of the Touriga Franca grape. The winemaker David Guimaraens stated "The 2011s stand out for the purity of the fruit and the quality of the tannins, which are silky and well-integrated, but provide plenty of structure,"


A small but good vintage in Bordeaux, with any remaining bottles exceedingly rare. It was an outstanding vintage for Red Burgundy. In Portugal no vintage port was declared. Some outstanding Colheita (Tawny) ports were made. Armagnac is a good choice for this vintage.
