From the excellent 1955 vintage, this Sandeman port scored 92/100 Parker points and is "Much deeper in color than the 1945, the 1955 Sandeman Vintage Porto has an attractive resinous bouquet with beeswax, mulberry, cloves, Provencal herbs and star anis surfacing with aeration. There is a noticeable nutty component to this ’55 – smoked walnut is more prominent when returning 20 minutes later. The palate is harmonious with less viscosity than the 1944, but armed with greater length and complexity. This bottling is a 10cl bottle of This Macallan Glenlivet 17 Year Old Single Malt Whisky which was distilled in 1963 and bottled in 1980 at 75% proof. Whiskyfun.com "Here’s a rare old unsherried Macallan, just one month older than Olivier. Quite unusual! The colour is incredibly pale, like some white wine’s, and at first nosing it’s mellow and warming. Beautiful nose with cold coffee, flowers from the fields, freshly cut apple, gooseberry. No sherry at all. Hints of liquorice, gets a little grassy. Very nice, it helps check that Macallan is a very fine distillery, not only a special wood treatment factory. The first mouthfeel is quite balanced, but extremely powerful. Malty and yeasty (fresh bread crumb), then grassy (rhubarb) with lots of liquorice stick and wood. Gets a little too spirity (pear, apple). Too bad, the palate doesn’t match the nose. Again, it’s bold and robust, but a little too simple: it lacks some finesse, even if we can find some interesting aspects in it. No need to tell that nobody would say it’s Macallan when tasting it blind In fact, both Olivier and I become to feel tired after having tasted all these unsherried cask strength Speysiders. The extremely rare Vasarely Collection Bottle by Victor Vasarely for the 1978 Vintage. Victor Vasarely was born in Hungary in '08. His extraordinary talent for drawing was apparent by the tender age of seven. He studied the works of Kandinsky and Le Corbusier with enthusiasm before moving into abstract art as early as '47, clearly defining his principles of abstraction. He co-founded the Galerie Denise René, with which a first group of abstract artists associated itself, and advocated the progressive and complete rejection of traditional academic painting and techniques, as well as the desire to achieve harmonious compositions, purely constructive solutions, while retaining only the essential geometric shapes. Vasarely died on Wednesday, 19 March '97 at the age of 89. Vasarely, who initiated kineticism, is renowned worldwide for his Vegas (geometric patterns creating an illusion of relief). Vasarely used these Vegas to inaugurate the first bottle in the Taittinger Collection.The 1978 harvest was one of the smallest in the history of Champagne since the pre-war period (78 million bottles). The gathering was preceded by a particularly beautiful and sunny late summer. The result was a high alcohol level in the red grapes and a high quality harvest.
