From the outstanding 1954 vintage, this stunning Madeira is deep brown in colour and has a sweet, rich raisiny nose with fudge and tar notes. It is very rich and complex on the palate with powerful flavours of raisins, fudge and spice. There is lovely acidity with some citrus freshness and notes of tea leaves and herbs, treacle and raisins. Drink now - 2060.

Very intense, with an almost spirituous character with plenty of old wood character showing exotic spices, some green-moulded wood, anise and fenugreek. On the palate an intense raisiny richness, with masses of chocolate and toasty, deep and smoky character. Viña Real Reserva is made mainly from grapes from Rioja Alavesa vineyards. The grapes come primarily from the towns of Laguardia and Elciego. Neighbouring municipalities have been involved in the production of this wine for several decades. The plots are small and sometimes terraced, featuring over 30-year old head-trained and unirrigated vines. The soils are mostly calcareous, poor in organic matter, with smaller yields and varying aspects. Drink now - 2034.
