It reveals notes of fleshy pear, lychee and small notes of fleshy yellow apple associated with small touches of fresh / bright small fruits, white flowers, linden as well as a discreet hint of fresh local grove. The palate is fruity, well-balanced and offers a juicy / acidulous frame, a good definition, a certain gourmandize, roundness, fat, precision, fleshiness, juiciness, roundness, clarity as well as an iodized side. On the palate this wine expresses notes of quenette, apple and small notes of pear associated with touches of small yellow fruits / quince, linden, almond blossoms as well as hints of iodine, slight hints of verbena and a very discreet hint of honey (in the background). This blockbuster wine boasts notes of plum liqueur, blueberries, blackberries, figs, scorched earth, espresso, and flowers. Tipping the scales at 16+% alcohol, it is almost surreal in its richness and power. Romero believes it will last for two decades or more, but I would recommend drinking it over the next 14-15 years. Getting the best parcel of Grenache from the estate and a dramatically shifted blend of 60% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre and the rest Syrah and Counoise, it's a massive and concentrated Chateauneuf that surprisingly still seems to show its Mourvedre component front and center. Blackberries, kirsch, truffle, gamy meats, licorice and earth all give way to a full-bodied, seamless, impeccably balanced wine that carries its huge core of fruit with remarkable freshness and grace.
