The very good 1985 vintage produced this impressive port scored 94/100 by Tom Cannavan "Delightful red fruit driving this, a gentle spirit here, also a gentle coffeeish and nutty savoury character, the red fruit softness is there, but it is taut on the palate, with such an edge: structured, 'iron fist in a velvet glove' stuff with a long, long finish of chocolate, woodsmoke and spice. Impressively endowed, with a reticent, but promising nose of chocolate, blackberry fruit, truffles, and licorice, this full-bodied, massive, moderately sweet port should be cellared until 2000. Deep crimson, spices and cocoa flit around very dark berry fruits. There's a touch of curry leaf, and balsamic notes that are dark and subtle. The palate is exceptionally smooth and silky, the plum and blackcurrant gloss of fruit melts into a bittersweet chocolate and raisin fudge depth, a nice zestiness to the acidity extending the finish." From the very good 2005 vintage and scoring 91/100 Parker points, "The 2005 QUINTA DA GRICHA is impeccably balanced, bright and graceful, with lovely flavors. It is quite charming. In a few months, from the time I tasted it in Portugal to the time I retasted it in the United States, it improved dramatically in the bottle, and fleshed out noticeably, which it needed to do. The tannins are ripe and reasonably well tamed, but the wine does have a backbone and structure. It has a lush first attack, but this continues on with more intensity and penetration, evolving well for hours. It also has a finish that is gripping and lingering, and that becomes more and more intense with air. The mid-palate is well on the elegant side. There were times when the wine seemed a little too elegant and understated for its USA price point (thank the exchange rate problems in large part for that), but the fruit is lovely. It expands in the glass, and the wine is so charming, with a certain Burgundian feel to it, that it is hard to resist. In particular, I really began enjoying a certain red berry note nuance to this wine as it aired out. Give it a couple of hours to wake up and you’ll be more convinced." Drink now - 2040.

From the outstanding 2019 vintage, this LBV Port scored 92/100 in the Decanter World Wine Awards and is deep ruby red with vivid purple highlights on the rim. The first impression is of intense woodland fruit with crisp brambly blackcurrant and blackberry aromas. The nose has a youthful freshness and vigour, the first burst of powerful, black berry fruit slowly revealing undertones of raspberry and cherry, scents of wild herbs and discreet warmer notes of liquorice and coffee. Although the aromas have a sensuous dimension, this elegant and polished LBV displays the characteristic Taylor definition and restraint. The palate is supported by taut, sinewy but perfectly integrated tannins and delivers a surge of powerful woodland berry flavours from the outset which are sustained into the long finish. The character of the 2019 harvest, with its freshness and pure, bright fruit, shines through on this wine.
